Before falling in love with a venue, check whether it can comfortably hold the wedding you are imagining. Ask about seated capacity, evening capacity, ceremony options, accommodation, parking, transport links and accessibility.
A venue can look perfect in photographs but feel difficult on the day if guests are squeezed, travel is complicated or the flow between ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing is unclear.
Costs & Hidden Fees
Ask exactly what is included in the venue fee and what costs extra. Important questions include corkage, supplier charges, cleaning fees, late licence costs, overtime charges, minimum spend requirements and VAT.
The best venues are usually transparent early. A clear cost conversation helps you avoid surprises later and compare venues more confidently.
Outdoor Ceremony Questions
If you are dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, ask where it takes place, how many guests it holds, whether there is shade, what happens in wind or rain, and who makes the final call on moving indoors.
Also ask when that decision is made. Some venues decide on the morning of the wedding, while others need more notice to move chairs, florals or sound equipment.
Guest Experience
Your guests will remember how the day felt. Ask about toilets, heating, cooling, seating, walking distances, elderly guests, children, dietary requirements and where guests go between each part of the day.
A guest-friendly venue makes the whole wedding feel smoother. Comfort is not unromantic. It is one of the foundations of a brilliant celebration.
Backup Plans
Ask what happens if it rains, if it is extremely hot, if wind affects an outdoor setup, or if part of the venue becomes unavailable. A strong Plan B should still feel like part of your wedding, not a disappointing compromise.
The question is not just whether a backup plan exists. It is whether you would still feel happy with the day if that backup plan was used.
